"Since George W. Buckley became president of Mercury Marine, the company has voluntarily pursued environmental standards both more aggressively and rapidly than called for by regulatory agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board," said Long. "They are making it very clear that they're working hard to protect the marine environment."
Mercury is demonstrating that by the fact that they have certified more ultra-low emissions, three-star engines, and set up an indoor test facility to reduce air, water, and noise pollution from its engines, according to Long. They have also volunteered to use California's eco-label on all of its engines in the US and Canada to provide boaters with important environmental information.
"For many years the industry has told us that eliminating the 2 stroke engine could not be done, but Mercury Marine has proven that to be wrong by eliminating their 2 stroke engines and expanding its line of 4 stroke engines," said Long. "This is a huge victory for the marine environment."
In return, Mercury is very pleased to receive the award. "We are proud to accept this award and endorsement from Russell Long, Executive Director, Bluewater Network," said George Buckley, Chairman and CEO of Brunswick Corporation.
Mercury expects to continue to maintain a leadership position in low-emission technology by continuing to invest heavily in new product development. "Our commitment to innovation will keep Mercury at the forefront of legislative and customer preference trends," said Buckley.
