Rockfish Season: Fishing for groundfish from shore and piers is open year-round. Boat-based  fishing for rockfish and lingcod in the Monterey South-Central Management Area (Pigeon Point to near Lopez Point) is open May 1 through December 31 from 0-40 fathoms (0-240 feet).

Groundfish Bag Limits: Sport anglers are allowed daily bag and possession limits of 10 rockfish, cabezon and greenlings, in combination. Sublimits exist for bocaccio, cabezon and greenlings; cowcod, yelloweye and canary rockfishes may not be retained at any time. The bag limit for lingcod is two, while the minimum size limit is 22 inches. For complete groundfish fishing regulations, refer to http://www.dfg.ca.gov/regulations.

Fishing for halibut, sanddabs, white seabass, surf perch and other species is open year round. Salmon season ran from April 6 – October 6 in 2013 and the 2014 season will be finalized in March and April by the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC)

Boat ramps: Private boaters targeting rockfish, salmon and albacore can launch their craft at the public ramps at Moss Landing and Monterey.

Moss Landing Harbor: the number one commercial fishing harbor in the Monterey Bay with 600+ slips for recreational boaters and commercial vessels. Partnering with marine research and education, the Moss Landing Harbor District (MLHD) provides full public access to the environment.
