Lake Almanor
Plumas County, CA
Fishing Notes:
Spring...
This is prime time for trophy smallies at Almanor. Fish move into shallows late April and May. Toss rip baits, crankbaits, jigs and bright colored tubes along the shallow stump flats. Sight-fishing can be excellent in crystal clear water.
Summer ...
Time to break out the topwater baits! Zara Spooks, Chug Bugs and Pop-R's are the ticket. Fish can be found on steep, rocky shorelines and main body points. During the day, 4 to 6 inch worms fished 10-30 feet deep are tough to beat. Also try wacky rigging Senkos under the floating docks.
Fall...
Fish move back into the shallows in search of crawdads and pond smelt. Top getters during fall are crankbaits, spinnerbaits, rip baits and jigs. Work wind blown points and stump flats. On calm days, stick to plastics and back out to deeper water.
