Bass Lake Recreation Area
Madera County

Bass Lake

    Fishing Notes:
  • Rainbow Trout Fishing is good year round. Troll lures and bait near dam and along entire shoreline; fish deeper in summer and fall. Bank fishing with bait is best in campground areas, creek inlets and off dam during winter, spring and fall.
  • Brown Trout Troll Rapalas and Rebels along shoreline.
  • Black Bass Largemouth, spotted and smallmouth bass are found throughout the lake. Fish jigs and worms off points and rocks for smallmouth and spotted bass. Flip around docks and willows for largemouth.
  • Kokanee Salmon August and September are the top months, when the salmon are concentrated along the dam, but the fish are available year round. Troll spoons, spinners and "bugs" tipped with white corn.
  • Black Crappie Fish small jigs off brush and docks from spring through fall.
  • Channel Catfish Use nightcrawlers in coves in summer and fall.
