Fishing Notes:
- Convict Lake opens every year on the last Saturday in Spril. For the first time this year, the season will be open through November 15, an additional two weeks.
- Rainbow Trout dominate the catches at Convict. Light line - 2 pound test leaders and 4 pound main line - is necessary at the lake because of the clear water conditions. Bank anglers find success throughout the seasons on both the north and south shores of the lake, with one of the hottest spots being the lake's outlet into Convict Creek. Bank anglers use Power Bait, Crave Bait, Predator Bait, nightcrawlers and Thomas Buoyant lures to entice rainbows. Boaters troll with nightcrawlers behind flashers and a variety of minnow imitation lures for the big rainbows.
- German Brown Trout are much tougher to catch in the lake waters, but the possibility of catching a lunker is always there. For maximum success, troll in the fall with Rapalas and nightcrawlers at 30 to 50 feet deep with leadcore line or downriggers.
- Convict Creek is a good option for anglers when the wind is blowing on Convict, like it was on opening day. Anglers drift nightcrawlers and salmon eggs or toss out spinners and flies for rainbows and an occasional brown.
