Fishing Notes:
Wipers are found in abundance year round in Lahontan Reservoir. Fish Rapala Fat Raps and other minnow imitation lures along rocks in the main body and narrows for these hard-fighting hybrids. If you want to catch trophy fish, the best months are August and September.
Walleye provide the top action in the spring. Boaters take them while trolling Scorpion Spinners, tipped with nightcrawlers, and a variety of walleye trolling jigs. Jigging with homemade spoons and Gibbs Minnows also produces quality walleye.
Channel Catfish roam throughout Lahontan. Fish mackerel, chicken liver, minnows and a variety of stink baits from shore or a boat.
Smallmouth, Largemouth and Spotted Bass offer decent action, although their population is not as abundant as at other Nevada reservoirs because of predation by wipers and walleye. Fish spinnerbaits, crankbaits, Senkos and an array of plastic worms in the spring, summer and fall.
Crappie will hit Mini Jigs and other small jigs in the spring around rocks and other structure.
