    Fishing Notes:
  • Smallmouth Bass are the most predominant bass species at Modesto. Fish spinnerbaits, grubs and worms in the shallows during spring and deeper water during summer and fall. Rocky and clay banks are the best areas to try for the bronzebacks.
  • Largemouth Bass Fish a variety of lures and baits around submerged trees and brush.
  • Rainbow Trout are caught year round, with the best action from November through mid-March when the DFG stocks the lake. Bank fishing with Power Bait and nightcrawlers is most popular, but trolling with spoons and nightcrawlers is also productive.
  • Black Crappie are best pursued in the spring and summer around submerged brush from float tubes and boats. Mini-jigs and minnows are the choice baits.
  • Channel Catfish are a sleeper here. Fish in the coves with mackerel and clams in the summer and fall.
