Fishing Notes:
Mackinaw Trout
are caught year round at Tahoe. The spring is best for numbers of fish, while the larger fish are landed in the summer and early fall months. Trollers use J-Plugs, Rapalas and other minnow imitation lures and live minnows at a variety of depths on the north and south shores. Jigging is productive with Bonbers, Gibbs Minnows and Crippled Herring.
Salmon fishing
is best from July through September, when the fish stage on the South Shore near the mouth of Taylor Creek. Troll a variety of spoons and kokanee bugs, tipped with white corn, or jig small Crippled Herring and spoons.
Brown Trout
are caught by top-line trollers working Rebels and Rapalas along the shoreline early and late in the day.
Rainbow Trout are also taken by anglers fishing plugs or nightcrawlers behind flashers along the shoreline.
