Steve Forsman

Here's a shot of Steve Forsman's 37 pound striper he caught as we motored on him today on the American River in the middle of Sacramento. Being as it's got to be the biggest Striped Bass I've ever witnesses being caught, I think it's worthy of Bragging rights. Thanks, Bob Aloo

I recently landed a 38 lb. - 45" Striped Bass on 9-9-03 during light rain- near Half Moon Bay, CA. I used 12 lb. Big Game fishing line, w/ a 5" Yo-Zuri "ghost" Mag Minnow lure. I literally hooked the fish roughly 10 feet away in the "whitewater", and it took me for a 20 minute ride! It's rare to hook a fish that size in inches of water, and to completely see it before it took off was a trip! It looked like a shark just feet away from me. Fortunately, I hooked it with "both" trebles. After I got it close enough to where I was wading, I literally kneeled on it and stuck my hand under its gill plate. The hooks were sharp and this thing wasn't done yet, so I didn't want grab it by the mouth. My hand looked like a sand crab compared to the size of it's head! His head turned out to be 17" around! The fishes tail "fanned out" was 12.5" from tip to tip, and the girth around the belly was 25.5" around. This thing looked like an animated cartoon fish!

This is one of my best friends, Mike Thompson. We were fishing the Sacramento River at Verona, just above the Sac airport. His fish weighed 22 pounds and was caught on a silver and chartreuse K-14 kwikfish with a sardine rap. He was using a 7 foot ulgy stick with an abu garcia 6500C1, 17 pound line. Thanks for a great day fishing on the river with my friends. Gary Haltom

Amy and Erika Johnson
These are my two girls Amy (4) and Erika (7) Johnson. We caught these rainbows at Loon Lake on July 2 on an evening trolling trip. They were all caught on Uncle Larry's spinners and Sep's dodgers from the surface down to 30'. It was our first time at Loon Lake and we had a great time. The girls love to boat those fish! Really hope they get to see themselves in "Dad's fishin magazine". Thanks, Todd Johnson

Dave Whalen
This is my friend Dave Whalen's 45 lb salmon caught at Verona Joes on the Sacramento River on a lure- it took him 50 minutes to land it. He was trolling alone and probably would not of been able to land it if not for the help of a couple of helpful anglers...fish weighed in at Elkorn Bait. hope you can feature it in your magazine! Joel Lotilla
I caught this 34 inch Ling Cod 2 miles outside the Half Moon Bay Harbor on 7-19-03. I was fishing from my Kayak in 30 feet of water right by some kelp beds using a green scampi on a lead head jig. I had another bite but ended up flipping my kayak because of a "sneaker" wave that caught me from a blind side. I lost all my tackle and one of my fishing rods (had 3 on board). I still managed to get hold of the stringer with the Ling Cod still attached to it - trying to swim back to it's home. Good thing I had a life vest and wet suit on me! I was able to get back on board my kayak - after trying to fend off some seals trying to grab my catch...... Joel Lotilla

Ann Pierce and dad Michael
On Aug, 4, 2003 my daughter Ann and I went fishing out of Half Moon Bay. We were fishing the kelp beds for rockfish. As we were fishing my daughter, sitting on the bow, picked up the rod saying to me, dad I think I have a big one here. As I turned she said dad this rods going to break! With the pole bent over her knee and pointing straight down, I replied let it break just don't let him loose. She set the drag so not to snap the line and started hauling him up. After a long while she got this big guy up to the top and we got our first look and gasped a the size of this guy, but as well he took a look at us and said to himself, I'm out of here and down he went reel burning! We just watched as he headed to the bottom. To our amazement he stopped just a few feet from the end of the line. I shouted start bringing him up Ann, and so she did. After another long fight she got him back to the surface again. As I finally netted the big guy we both yelled for joy! The monster blue lingcod after about 20min or so was weighed in at 17lbs. 6oz., but I feel he was even more if we could have weighed him right away. Nevertheless, I could not have been more proud of my daughter, she really played him well. Thank You, Michael Pierce
