Frank Gault and Bob Willet with rainbows and kokanees
Frank Gault/Bob Willet

Me and buddy Bob fished Melones again today. We started where we left off yesterday and the results were almost the same. Trolled pink/blue hoochies at 30-45' across points in Mormon Creek arm and ended the day with 6 nice holdover rainbows to 15" and 4 tubbo kokanees to 16" and 1.6 lb. Not red hot action, but they're there and biting if you go at it steady. We lost several more big ones, so the fun was continuous more or less.
Kim Kloeb with Twin Lakes Rainbows

Here is a picture from last year. Better late than never. I caught this 7 1/4 lb Rainbow at Twin Lakes on July 4th. Headed to Twin Lakes for the Opener and to start another year of fishing. Wish me luck.

Frank Kresta with Rogue River Chinook
Frank Kresta, submitted by Don Carr of Fresno

Dave, here is the picture of the 42# Chinook caught by Frank Kresta of Visalia California while fishing Johns Hole on the Rogue. Our guide was Helen Hughson. We used plain anchovy baits in about 1 1/2 feet of water.
Rocco and his Warsaw Grouper
Rocco, submitted by Wefings Marine

Rocco, of Apalachicola, Florida caught this 120# Warsaw Grouper fishing on the Nomad in the Gulf of Mexico. He was fishing in 350' of water, using 60# test and brought him up manually, NO electric reel!
Anthony Green
Anthony Green

This is my son Anthony holding his largest trout to date. We stopped by New Melones where he stuck this square-tailed fully finned 3.7 pounder using his cheap little push button Zebco combo set up. We were fishin from shore at Glory Hole cove, dunkin power bait. Everyone got their limits that day but he busted the biggest fish.

For your natural history files, I submit this fine example of Ptychocheilus grandis...Sacramento Squawfish..taken at 49 Bridge on Melones Res. These boogers are more common than trout sometimes, and I take what I can get sport-wise....besides, taking one this size out of circulation probably saves hundreds if not thousands of baby trout from becoming a meal. They're a native species, and I haven't tried eating one yet, but I'm told pioneers called them "white salmon".... I'm going to smoke one & see if that works out. This particular fish was 27" and 5.5 lbs. I have since talked to people who have caught 3+ footers in Melones, and that must really be interesting on light tackle. I wonder what the biggest one in the lake looks like? Besides ugly, I mean....Frank Gault

I caught this 20 in. 3 lb. brown trout on the McCloud River October 28th. It was released after taking the picture.
