This week there were three gigantic fish caught at Collins Lake, starting with Ken Borello’s 20 lb. 4 oz. catfish.
“He caught it on anchovies at night and brought it in for his photo when our store opened up,” said Kathy Hess at Collins Lake Resort. “His netter was his good buddy Vern Harms from Grass Valley. Our lake record on catfish is 24 pounds.”
Mike Hage from Sonoma hooked a 9 lb. 8 oz. trout on a worm while he was trolling only 10 feet down over the channel.
Then came Thomas Brown who was also trolling down 10 feet in Elmer’s Cove and he caught a trout that weighed 7 lb. 12 oz.
Congratulations go to Aislinn Gamble, who caught her 1st fish ever (actually 2 trout) on a crawdad lure from the beach. First fish honors also go out to Victoria Lacalle, who landed a beautiful bluegill.
Michelle and Brandon Moen from Rough and Ready trolled with flies and hooked 6 trout to 3 pounds and 2 bass. Luis and Jr. Garcia fished on the east side with worms and caught two cats and a bass.
Rob Reimers of Rustic Rob’s Guide Service and his cousin, Mike Reimers, found great fishing on a trout trip at Collins Lake on Saturday, May 17.
“We landed two limits of fish up to 4 pounds in two hours,” said Reimers, “We trolled nightcrawlers behind dodgers and Sling Blades at 15 to 25 ft. Besides the fish we kept, we released 11 more, only keeping the one that swallowed the hook or trophy fish.”
The lake level is 15 feet from maximum pool and the surface water temperature is 63 degrees.
