Almanor Heats Up As Bucks Slows Down
After weeks of red hot action, Bucks Lake has cooled off a notch. Lake Almanor, which had been fair to slow, is now heating up and producing some impressive rainbows.
“I fished Bucks Lake today and we did well, but it isn’t fishing as good as it had been,” related Bryan Roccucci of Big Daddy’s Guide Service. “Most of the fish we got were rainbows, but we hooked some small macks along with a few browns and brook trout. The fish seem to be on the move.”
“For a long time we were only getting fish in deep water, but now trout are showing in the shallows. The water temperature has been dropping about a half degree per day, so fall conditions are that far away,” he stated.
“At Almanor things are getting really interesting,” said Roccucci. “On my most recent trip to the lake we got several quality rainbows while trolling soft plastic smelt imitations. The first fish of the day was a 5.7 pound rainbow. Along with the rainbows we got a few kings.”
“The kings are running about 2 pounds while the trout average 3. Sometimes we run the smelt imitations with dodgers. Sometimes we run them alone. You’ve got to let the fish tell you what they want on any given day,” tipped Roccucci.Back To Reports
