(Yuba City) Salmon fishing is best in the cooler section of the Sacramento River from Chico to Red Bluff now, due to warm water temperatures in the rest of river. Hopefully, the arrival of cooler fall weather will cool the water temperatures down soon.
“I’ve been averaging from half to 1 salmon per red while fishing from Chico to Red Bluff,” reported Manuel Saldana of MSJ Guide Service. “Nobody is limiting out now.”
Erreck Conley from Magalia landed a beautiful 17 lb king salmon while fishing Pro-Cure Redd Hot Double Stuff-cured roe during a trip with Saldana. Dan Jordan Neri from Chico also started his morning off with a hard-fighting king salmon caught on the new Cousin raze series rod and Yakima plugs.
Bob Boucke of Johnson’s Bait and Tackle in Yuba City reported an upswing in salmon action at press time on the Sacramento River above Colusa. Roy Van Tassel, fishing guide, reported catching three salmon to 35 pounds above Colusa on chartreuse bill Kwikfish on Tuesday, August 26.
Boucke reported better action on the salmon in the Gridley area of the Feather. Chris Spades and Johnny Angel have both been catching some bright kings.
Johnny and his friend landed four kings ranging from 17 to 20 pounds on Sunday, August 24, and two on Saturday. “They trolled upstream with Kwikfish and sardine wrappers,” said Boucke.
