Anglers Bag Bright Kings Below Chico
Boaters reported landing good numbers of king salmon while fishing a variety of methods on the Sacramento River in the Chico area.
“We spent most of this week on the Sacramento River below Scotty’s,” reported Rick Kennedy of Tight Lines Guide Service. “We had pretty consistent action, landing an average of 3 fish per day. they were all nice bright big fish.”
“For us, plugs were the top producer this week, although we did boat a couple on Pautzke Cured Roe. Our best plug was a Yakima Bait T-60 Flat Fish in the double trouble color. Bigger seemed to be better.”
“On August 30, we took one of our good clients Dan Wolfe out for his 75th birthday. Dan landed a nice salmon and his buddy Walt Hodnett, 87 nailed his two fish limit on this trip. After fishing we found some shade and pulled out a birthday cake for Dan," said Kennedy.
“Fishing has been great on the Sacramento River using red Pautzke fire cured roe and Yakima T-55 plugs in the Chico area,” said Scott Feist of Feisty Fish Guide Service. “We have been averaging a fish a rod to limits everyday with big beautiful Chinook salmon! We ended up with 7 fish, ranging from 18 to 30 pounds, for 4 guys on Saturday, August 31. More and more fish are pouring into the system and I think we're days away from crazy wide open king fishing!”
The salmon fishing picked up in the Tisdale and Colusa areas over the Labor Day weekend, reported Rob Reimers at Johnson’s Bait and Tackle in Yuba City. “Boaters fishing below Tisdale are trolling downstream with Blue Fox and other spinners, while anglers fishing near Ward’s Landing are anchoring up with Flatfish and spinners, as well as trolling,” he explained.Back To Reports
