Species: Trout
Location: Frenchman Lake, Davis Lake,

The water is opening up fast at Frenchman Lake. There is open water at Ship’s Cove to the left of the dam and lots of open water at Big Cove, reported Shirley Wiggin at Wiggin’s Trading Post.

“The ice at the dam is breaking up fast and there should be fishable open water there soon,” she noted.

Thomas Gallegos and Cody Owens from Reno caught a limit of nice- sized rainbows at Ship’s Cove using green garlic PowerBait. Their fish measured between 14 to 16 inches each. Gary Bonanno also had a great day at the lake, catching and releasing 15 quality rainbows at Big Cove.

Jeanne Graham of the J&J Grizzly Store and Camping Resort in Portola reported on the recent Lake Davis Ice Fishing Derby:

“What a great fishing derby yesterday,” she said. “Congratulations go to: 1st Place Chase Nielson, 3.165 lbs, 20.75”, total score 23.415; 2nd Place Keven Koszuth, 3.24 lb, 20’’, total score 23.240; and 3rd Place Jarod Willis, 2.625 lb, 20”, total score 22.625.”
