Anglers Working Hard For Salmon
Salmon fishing has been tough on the Feather River since opening day, with anglers struggling for every fish they hooked.
However, Stanley Cleveland Jr managed to landed two salmon weighing 20 and 23 pounds on the day after the opener while fishing with Rob Reimers of Rustic Rob’s Guide Service. “He caught both fish while fishing Brad’s lures with special spinner blades below Shanghai Rapids,” said Reimers.
Reimers didn’t hook any fish while fishing the Shanghai Area the previous morning before going to work at Johnson’s Bait and Tackle, but he did see two salmon landed by anglers in another boat.
“Guide Raith Heryford and I teamed up for the salmon opener on the Feather on July 16,” said Manuel Saldana Jr. of MSJ Guide Service. “We hooked seven salmon and landed one - they kept spitting the hook.”
On the next day, Saldana and Heryford hooked three salmon and landed one.
The Department of Water Resources continues to release combined flows of 5500 cfs below the Thermalito Afterbay Outlet.
