Bank Anglers Working For Their Trout

Location: Topaz Lake,

Low water conditions at Topaz Lake continue to make launching a boat and fishing from shore challenging, but some anglers are up to the challenge.

One angler brought in a 5.7 lb. rainbow while fishing a worm from shore. Another fishermen landed a 4.1 lb. trout while fishing from the bank, according to Kyle Rasmussen at the Topaz Lodge Store.

“The big fish are hard to find,” he noted. “I heard of one trout caught by an angler on the lake today.”

“The weather has been really warm for this time of year,” noted Chuck Fields at Topaz Landing. “I haven’t heard any reports on angling success lately.”

The Fish and Game Commission has approved the West Walker River for year round fishing. The change opening the West Walker to winter catch and release fishing was adopted and the 2014 date opening will be March 1 to make sure all regulations are clearly defined and advertised.

Regulations are catch and release and barbless hooks or lures only until the April 26, 2014 opening and then again at the end of regular fishing November 15, 2014.
