The Fish Sniffer - Bass and Trout Are Hitting Off And On
Bass and Trout Are Hitting Off And On

Species: Bass Trout Landlocked Salmon
Location: Folsom Lake,

Black bass fishing is off and on at Folsom Lake as spring weather fronts move through the region.

Cody Resendes and his fishing partner caught and released over 25 bass during their most recent trip to Folsom. "They hooked the majority of the fish while working the points with a 1/4 oz darter head matched with a white RoboWorm," said Ben Raynal of Loomis. "The fish were all spots with the exception of one smallmouth weighing in near 3 pounds."

Several days later Cody made a solo trip to the lake and struggled to repeat day one. "I caught and released five spots in the 12 to 14 inch class while drop shooting plastics off rock piles in the main body around 10 to 15 feet deep," he stated. "I tried a bunch of different lures and techniques, but the bite seemed to be off.”

Trout fishing on Folsom has seemed to slow down with not so many landlocked king salmon being caught over the past week. For trout, a good go-to setup would be top lining a J-7 Rapala in a white/black color or white/blue set back 225 to 250 feet behind the boat trolled around 2.5 mph. For down riggers, early morning has been doing well on white bikini pattern Needlefish or a while glow Humdinger in the 1/2 ounce size.

Folsom is 53 percent of lake's capacity and 76 percent of the 10 year average.
