Bass Fishing Is Hot And Cold
“There is a famous book named Tale of Two Cities,” reported Larry Hemphill, fishing guide. “This report is the tale of two reports - one great and the other - not so great!”
On the first trip, Hemphill guided 3 fellows that are part of NASCAR - one driver and two crew chiefs. They started off with a bang in the south end, using green pumpkin Berkley Havoc baits.
“I found a patch of weeds that I normally don't fish much and bass were everywhere,” said Hemphill. They were catching 2-3/4 to 4-1/2 pounders right and left. The bite was on fire!”
“The night bite was ok, but not great. They did land several 4+ pounders. We made a last stop about 12:45 AM and the driver guy drove the hook into a nice 5 lb 9 oz bass. We used Berkley Power Worms and Netbait Paca craws at night. We wound up with 22 bass in the boat for a best 5 - 23+ pounds.”
“On Friday evening I took a father/daughter team for a special trip before she goes off to college. We had zero in the boat before dark,” said Hemphill.
“After dark the girl caught a 2-1/2 pounder,” he reported. “I finally got desperate enough that we went south of Jago Bay - near Jenson Point and dad and I got back to back fish - his biggest bass ever (3 3/4 lbs) and mine about 4-1/4.”
“Soon the girl had her biggest ever at nearly 4 lbs. We caught another 4, so we endied with 5 bass for 18 lbs. I also caught a catfish weighing about 15 lbs!” he noted.Back To Reports
