(Elkton) The spring time fun has begun for Big K Outfitters on the Umpqua Riverand the spring Chinook season is in full swing “A fish weighing 35 lbs is the best so far and I have heard rumors of a 52 lb. caught belowElkton,” said Todd Harrington, Fishing Director at Big K Guest Ranch & Outfitters. “Theretruly is no finer salmon anywhere than an Umpqua River springer, which is why people are sowilling to put in extra time for these specimens. Their table fare is second to none! If youcome, be warned, as is the case with many large fish, patience and persistence is key. Two fishis an average day with the average size around 23 lbs.” The top 3 techniques are hanging Kwikfish type plugs, spinners or spinning anchovies. “If more action is your style, we are in prime time pre- spawn smallmouth season and willso be through mid May,” said Harrington. “We have been landing around 20 to 30 trophy sizedsmallies a day with a few smaller fish in the mix as well.”“Plus 500,000 + American shad will be showing up any day,” noted Harrington. “You cancatch up to 100 in a day here on the ranch at the Big K! We filmed a T.V. show for ‘Joy ofFishing’ last spring here and caught all 3 species in the same trip!”Back To Reports
