(Yuba City) Fishing has been slow since the opening of salmon season on the Feather River on July 16, but anglers who stick it out are hooking some quality fish.

Rob Reimers of Rustic Rob’s Guide Service reported 1 to 2 salmon on his trips since the opener. He has been using plug/spinner blade combos and Silvertron spinner/Speedy Shiner combos.

“The fishing hasn't been off the hook, but I have been boating salmon every day,” said Reimers. “My latest trip on the Feather above Shanghai Falls produced a bright 18 pound king.”

“Trollers using spinners and plugs are getting some bright salmon in the Boyd’s Pump area,” added Bob Boucke of Johnson’s Bait and Tackle. “Anglers fishing below Star Bend are also hooking some stripers – mostly shakers and few keepers – while fly fishing and fishing cut anchovies and sardines below Star Bend.”

“Salmon fishing has been tough, tough, tough below the Thermalito Afterbay Outlet,” said Manuel Saldana of MSJ Guide Service. “The 3 people fishing with me hooked one salmon today that came off near the boat. We were fishing Yakima Bait Flatfish below the Thermalito Afterbay Outlet.”

“Guide Raith Heryford and I made one scout trip below the outlet that produced 3 salmon to 15 pounds,” added Saldana. “On the following day, I ended up with one 18 lb. salmon.”
