Variety is the word at Lake Tahoe. More specifically, anglers hitting Lake Tahoe these days are catching a variety of different gamefish and some of them are running large!
The folks at Tahoe Sportfishing in South Lake have been putting their clients on an impressive array of gamefish. On June 25, a 5 pound brown was caught aboard The Prophet. On the previous day, Captain Steveo aboard the Dory-L put his anglers on kokanee to 3 pounds, rainbows and macks while fishing off the lake’s south end.
Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters continues to put his clients on limits of mackinaw while trolling dodgers and rigged minnows. St. Denis is trolling from 150 to 250 feet deep off Sugar Pine, Dollar and Calneva Points. The fish are running 3 to 6 pounds with the occasional larger fish to 12 pounds mixed in.
Captain Rick Kennedy of Tight Lines Guide Service has been working Tahoe for mackinaw to 6 pounds as well as kokanee salmon. Kennedy’s macks have been coming out of 150 to 300 feet of water on a variety of offerings including Gulp! minnows and Sep’s Pro Secrets.
Mickey Daniels of Mickey’s Big Mack Charters continues to catch macks up at the north end of Tahoe. Daniels’s clients have been keeping a few fish in the 3 to 7 pound class for the table. The rest of the fish are tagged and released.
Daniels starts off the day trolling shallow water quickly and then slows down and probes deeper as the sun climbs in the sky.
