Captain Chris Smith Brings Captain Hook Sportfishing Back To Northern California!
Captain Jim Smith of Happy Hooker Sportfishing is a living legend when it comes to saltwater sportfishing in northern California. Jim’s three sons, Steve, James and Chris have followed in their father’s footsteps and have become sportfishing legends in their own rite.
James has stuck to his California roots and continues to operate California Dawn Sportfishing out of the Berkeley Marina, while Steve has operated Captain Steve’s Lodge on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula for more than 20 years.
Captain Chris Smith spent many years running his own charter operation out of the Emeryville Marina before moving to Alaska to fish the rich waters of the Cook Inlet. These days after thoroughly exploring the splendor of Alaska, Chris has returned to his California roots.
Chris has picked up a 35 foot vessel, which he’s dubbed the Captain Hook and is now offering six pack trips. Chris plans to begin by offering crab and rockfish combination trips out of the Berkeley Marina this November.
During the winter months he’ll birth his boat in Martinez in order to target sturgeon and stripers in San Pablo Bay, Suisun Bay and the West Delta. Come spring Chris will split his time between live bait potluck fishing inside and outside San Francisco Bay and he may well run up to Bodega for a month or two during the summer to target salmon and big lingcod.
Chris’s knowledge of Norcal’s coastal waters is unsurpassed. He’s a top rate angler and skipper, with a lifetime of experience dating back to his childhood. He’ll be putting his knowledge and experience to work for you as you pursue your angling goals. Beyond that, fishing with Captain Chris is never intimidating or stressful regardless of your level of skill or experience. Chris takes a lighthearted approach to his fishing.
“Fishing is supposed to be fun. We are going to catch plenty of fish on the Captain Hook, but the emphasis will always be on having a fun safe trip,” Chris asserts.
