Chilly Nights Spark Trout
The crowds have largely thinned out and the trout are now responding to chilly overnight conditions. Things are getting exciting in the eastern Sierra for anglers in search of fall trout!
(Bridgeport) “The Twins are fishing well lately, lots of fish in the 8 to 14 inch range with some fish showing up to around 4 pounds,” disclosed Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods. “PowerBait, crawlers, Power Eggs and Mice Tails are all doing well from the shore or boats, also trolling with blades and crawlers or spoons like Thomas Buoyants and Jakes has been good. Fly anglers are doing well stripping streamers like wooly buggers, seal buggers and mini leeches.”
The East Walker is running at 55 cfs today and is still fishing well. Not too much dry action lately with the cooler weather but the nymph and streamer fishing is pretty good. Starting to hear more and more about streamers lately. There seems to be lots of fish in the 12 to 16 inch range being caught lately with some 18 to 22 inchers being caught here and there. Patterns to try include: rainbow warrior, wd-40, zebra midge, san juan worm, buckskin caddis, pheasant tail, prince nymph, dark lord, micro mayfly, zuddler, moal leech, jj special and sculpzilla,” said Reid.
(Bishop) According to The Trout Fly, Lake Crowley still gets a “good” rating. The fishing for quality trout in McGee Bay has slowed a bit. When you do hook up remember to fight the fish quickly and release them without removing them from the water. This way you’ll avoid stressing the fish too much and killing it.
(June Lake Loop) According to the staff at Ernie’s Tackle, June Lake has been fishing well for trollers pulling threaded night crawlers, spoons and Rapalas. The trout are fairly deep, so either downriggers or leadcore line is required to get the baits and lures in front of the fish.
Limits and near limits are the rule at Gull Lake. Shore anglers are utilizing standard baits such as Pautzke salmon eggs, night crawlers and PowerBait for rainbows. Tossing spoons and spinners has been working early in the morning and late in the evening.Back To Reports
