Decent Mackinaw Action On Tap At Union Valley

Written By: Garry Erck, March 4, 2013
Species: Mackinaw, Trout,
Location: Loon Lake, Ice House Reservoir, Union Valley Reservoir, Hell Hole Reservoir, Jenkinson Reservoir, French Meadows Reservoir,

(Riverton)  Guide Ken Mathis of Ken’s Custom Tackle is finding Union Valley tipping its hand on a decent mackinaw bite.

“We pulled in a twenty pound mack this week,” said Mathis. “Most that come in now are rat mack size – in the 3-5 pound range -  but we are seeing the occasional bruiser. The better mack bite is 40-50 feet deep near rocky structure with Ken’s Double-Flutter spoons.”

“Macks and trout showed up this week at Jenkinson Lake,” reported Karen at Sly Park Lake Resort.  “Macks have been caught on the troll in the second dam area on nightcrawlers and trout are on tap at the first dam and backside of the lake on PowerBait.”

Loon Lake is at 42% capacity, Ice House stands at 64%, Union Valley is 72% and Jenkinson Lake is at 89% capacity.
