Location: Clear Lake,
(Clear Lake Oaks) Larry Hemphill, fishing guide, reported one of the slowest bass fishing trips at Clear Lake in over a year in late July.
“We had 7 bites and got four fish in the boat,” said Hemphill. “The fish weighed 4, 3-1/2, 3-1/2 and 2-1/2 pounds.”
“The fishing was just very slow – the post-spawn bite is over, said Hemphill. “We fished the late afternoon and night in the Clear Lake arm and north end.”
They caught their fish while throwing jigs, 10 inch Berkley Power Worms and 8 inch Dead Ringers. The surface water temperature was 82 to 83 degrees.
Fishing was “fair” for Hemphill and Mike Sperbeck on a previous afternoon/evening trip. “We caught and released a largemouth near 4 pounds and I landed two going approximately 4-1/4 and 4-3/4 lbs while using jigs.” he said. “We landed a few smaller ones, but that was about it. After 11 pm the wind was simply getting worse and we left.”
He added, “There are lots of weeds showing now. All our bass were on rock structure.”Back To Reports
