Fishing For Adults And Jacks Improves
King salmon fishing has picked up on the lower Klamath River as increased Bureau of Reclamation water releases from the Trinity River continue. Flows at Klamath were 2,820 cfs at press time.
“Fishing is improving,” said Steve Huber of Steve Hubert’s Guide Service. “Nelson and Pam Money caught 2 adults in the 14 to 15 pound range, two jacks and two steelhead weighing 9 and 10 pounds on Sunday, September 1. We side-drifted salmon roe in the Klamath below Blue Creek.”
On the previous day, the Moneys bagged two adult kings and two jacks while fishing with Huber in the same area.
In the upper stretch of the Klamath below the Iron Gate Fish Hatchery, fishing remains excellent for rainbow trout. Hot Shot/roe combos, nightcrawlers, spinners and flies are all productive. The salmon should start to show by mid September.
