Fishing Still Better For Stripers Than Salmon
Striped bass action is better than salmon fishing, though hardworking anglers continue to nail some bright kings while tossing out spinners and roe below the Hazel Avenue Bridge.
“A few friends of mine are hooking striped bass ranging from 5 to 12 pounds while throwing out albino Super Flukes in the lower American,” said Eddie Bisbee at Elkhorn Bait and Tackle. “They’re targeting the eddies near fast water while standing a few feet from shore.”
Phil James landed a 23 lb. king while fishing from his boat at Discovery Park at the mouth of the American. He used Kwikish with a sardine and crawdad wrap, reported Tim Boggs, the owner of Elkhorn.
Expect salmon fishing in the American to pick up when the fall run moves into the river in mid to late September.
Releases to the American River below Nimbus Dam remain at 2750 cfs.Back To Reports
