The Fish Sniffer - Fishing Still Tough In Low Water
Fishing Still Tough In Low Water

Written By: Dan Bacher, February 23, 2014
Species: Trout
Location: Topaz Lake,

Trout fishing is still slow at Topaz Lake, due to low water conditions and snow.

“We have 11 inches of snow around the lake, so nobody has been able to fish over the past two weeks,” reported Chuck Fields at the Topaz Landing. “There haven’t been many people out since the lake opened to fishing on January 1.”

Hopefully, the Sierra will get more snow so the lake is able to fill up and boaters are able to launch their boats at the landing and at the state park.

Topaz is known for producing quality rainbows and bow-cutts for both bank anglers and boaters. Shore fishermen employ Berkley PowerBait, Pautzke salmon eggs and nightcrawlers, while boaters troll with nightcrawlers behind dodgers and flashers and black/gold Rapalas.
