Hard Working Anglers Nail Sturgeon

Species: Sturgeon
Location: Sacramento River- Middle,

While the sturgeon fishing continues to be tough on the Sacramento River from Verona to Colusa, Rob Reimers of Rustic Rob’s Guide Service continues on a roll.

After catching and releasing three legal sturgeon measuring 52, 62 and 67 inches in the Tisdale area on one night trip, he found success on his next trip to the Knights Landing area.

“I got another sturgeon on Saturday night,” said Reimers. “This one was over the 68" maximum size limit, so I didn’t bring it out of the water to bring into the boat. I think he was about 7 ft, give or take some.”

He landed the fish while fishing with a ghost shrimp and pileworm combo. On the previous trip, he used ghost shrimp/nightcrawler combos and sardines with Bang crawdad to entice the fish.

Expect the fishing to pick up with the inflows from the storm that hit the watershed the weekend of February 8-9.
