Ice Fishing Set To Begin Soon

Species: Trout
Location: Frenchman Lake, Davis Lake,

Lake Davis is frozen over, but a report on the ice thickness was not available at press time. Ice fishing for rainbow trout will shift into high gear as soon as the ice becomes thick enough to safely walk upon, reported Jeanne Graham at the J&J Grizzly Store and Camping Resort

Before the lake froze over, Graham talked with some folks that had been out trolling. “They landed six rainbows and had several that spit the hook,” said Graham. “They were trolling with flies and Dick Nites about 10 feet.”

“Many fishermen were thankful for the good fishing at Frenchman Lake this past week,” reported Shirley Wiggin at Wiggin’s Trading Post in Chilcoot. “The fish were biting best in the late morning hours. Nightcrawlers and PowerBait were the baits of choice for most people.”

Lee, from Reno, caught his limit at the dam using rainbow PowerBait and nightcrawlers. Long-time Frenchman fisherman, Mitch, reported that 2 women fishing from shore near the dam caught and released 12 rainbows. They were floating nightcrawlers off the bottom.
