(South Lake Tahoe) On December 29, Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Sportfishing did something that a lot of trouters dream of, but few ever achieve. He hooked and landed a massive brown trout over 15 pounds!

St. Denis was trolling a Trophy Stick plug just off Lake Tahoe’s Elk Point a short distance south of Zephyr Cove. It was just after 1 o’clock when the fish hit and it took St. Denis about 30 minutes to bring it to the boat.

St. Denis reports that top line trolling for big browns and macks has been hit and miss. A few big fish have been hooked, but he’s been skunked plenty too.

Deepwater macks have been offering St. Denis’s clients steady results on fish in the 3 to 7 pound class. Minnow and dodgers are the top offerings for trolling in 150 to 200 feet of water.

Mickey Daniels of Mickey’s Big Mack Charters has been doing well while working the north end of the lake. Limits and near limits of macks to 6 pounds have been the rule for Mickey’s clients.

The staff at Tahoe Sportfishing reported that limits have been pretty easy to come by when the weather cooperates. They continue fishing off the Sky Run Shelf and Edgewood Shelf with minnows teamed with flashers.
