Jenkinson Lake Facts
Location and Size: Jenkinson Reservoir is located in the Sly Park Recreation Area in the Sierra Nevada foothills of El Dorado County. The reservoir holds back the waters of Park Creek, a tributary of the North Fork of the Cosumnes River. The recreation area is open year round.
Boating facilities: Boat launching is available only on the concrete ramps in the main recreation area below the Gate House and off the Stonebraker Campground. The travel pattern is counter-clockwise. There is a 5 mph speed limit within 200 feet of swimming areas, docks, ramps and the shoreline and 100 feet from downed skiers, other boats and in the narrows. The maximum speed on the lake is 35 mph – or whatever speed is posted. Boating capacity is monitored daily; access is closed when maximum capacity is reached. Personal watercraft are not permitted on Jenkinson.
Day Use & Launching Fees: The daily vehicle fee is $11.00, while the boat launch fee is $9.00.
Boat rentals: Pedal boats, kayaks, canoes, rowboats and 12-foot aluminum power boat rentals are available for rental May through September on a first come, first served basis.
Picnic facilities: Day Use/Picnic Areas (6 am to 10 pm) are scattered throughout the park – look for signs. Some have tables and barbecues, others just tables. A day use picnic area for groups in located a half mile from the gatehouse on the north end of the main picnic area.
Hiking: Hikers must stay off the horse trailers, while equestrians are permitted on horse trails only. Bicycles are allowed on hiking trails and roads only – stay off the lake bed.
Swimming: Prohibited beyond buoy lines, in boat lane across from Group Area #5 or further than 150 feet from shore.
Camping: Eight family campgrounds are available, a total of 164 individual sites, each with table, fire ring and barbecue. Vault toilets and water faucets are nearby. Five group areas and two youth group areas are available.
Handicapped accessibility: The Jenkinson Handicap Camp includes nine campsites with paved ramps, vault toilets, wheelchair access to tables and designated tent areas. Reservations are suggested.
