King Salmon Begin To Show
Salmon fishing on the American River is starting to pick up, but most anglers are still concentrating on fishing the Sacramento and Feather rivers for the fall kings.
Bank anglers fishing the lower river in the Gristmill, Watt Avenue, Howe Avenue and Paradise Beach areas are picking up some kings averaging 15 to 18 pounds while tossing out spinners and other offerings. “One angler weighed in a fish from the American weighing 28-1/2 pounds after it was cleaned and bled,” reported Allen Fong at Fisherman’s Warehouse.
Tim Boggs at Elkhorn Bait and Tackle said some of his regular customers are picking up salmon while tossing out Mepps Flying C spinners below the Hazel Avenue Bridge. However, they have been reluctant to give more details.
The Bureau of Reclamation, after a summer of draining the water in Folsom Lake to go to corporate agribusiness interests on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley, has been reduced to only 1750 cfs, now that the salmon are beginning to arrive in the river.Back To Reports
