The Fish Sniffer - Kokanee Fishing Builds Momentum
Kokanee Fishing Builds Momentum

Species: Kokanee
Location: Stampede Reservoir,

Kokanee salmon fishing is going strong at Stampede Reservoir, as evidenced by the trolling adventure that Rick Kennedy of Tight Lines Guide Service made there on Friday, May 16.

“We launched at 6:00 AM and headed towards the island,” said Kennedy. “We dropped two lines down to 30’ and one top line. Within a couple minutes we had fish on. By 8:15 AM we had 14 kokanee up to 13” and one rainbow in the box and lost another eight or so. “

The best depth was 26’ to 35’, but they did get a few on the top line as well. A Sep’s watermelon dodger and a RMT Assassin spinner, tipped with pink Pautzke Fire Corn, was the hot set up.

“Launching wasn’t a problem. They have cleaned up the ramp and it helped a lot. You will still be launching in the mud, but it’s better than it was last week. I was able to launch without four-wheel drive today,” Kennedy advised.

After the Memorial Day weekend crowd, you definitely need 4 wheel drive to launch a boat. I saw many rigs stuck trying to pull their boats out with only 2 wheel drive. Totally worth it
