This past Sunday, I had the opportunity to spend Father’s Day with my dad at Lake Berryessa. We trolled the main lake near the big island for six kokanee, two trout, and six lost fish by 11:00 am. The hot ticket was a pink Apex-style lure trolled 1.5 MPH at 50 to 55 feet deep. We found our fish over open water as well as over the shelf in 60 to 70 feet of water. The trip was highlighted by a 17.75 inch kokanee slamming my lure along the east side of the lake. It made several drag-burning runs before I was able entice it into the net.
As usual, the bite was finicky, but the chance of landing an eighteen inch or bigger kokanee always gets me coming back for more! It was a great way to spend Father’s Day morning before returning home to enjoy the company of my own kids.Back To Reports
