The Fish Sniffer - Largemouths Lead Spring Angling Parade
Largemouths Lead Spring Angling Parade

Written By: Dan Bacher, April 27, 2014
Species: Bass Trout
Location: Rancho Seco Lake,

As the water warms up, the rainbow trout are becoming less active and are looking for colder water. Largemouth are coming off their beds and the fishing is picking up.

Ron Calvert of the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company rated the bass fishing as “excellent” and the trout fishing as “fair.”

“We’re hearing reports of largemouths from 3 pounds up to 12 pounds showing,” said Calvert. “The lake is still full, so it is easy to work the shoreline for that big hog.”

Anglers looking to target bass should toss out rainbow trout swimbaits and ripbaits, as well as jigs, tubes, Senkos and spinnerbaits. For trout, toss out PowerBait, Power Eggs, Pautzke Fire Bait, nightcrawlers and Kastmasters.
