Anglers that visit Lake Tahoe are enjoying some very good fishing at this time. The mackinaw bite is top notch for fish ranging up to 9 pounds and kokanee ranging up to 18 inches have been caught too.
Gene St. Dennis of Blue Ribbon Charters reported limit-style mack action on his most recent trip with lakers ranging up to 8 pounds. Minnows teamed with white dodgers were the ticket for success.
The folks at Tahoe Sportfishing also reported limit style mack action off the south end of the lake. They’ve been tempting their fish with minnows teamed with flashers. In the past couple days anglers with the folks from Tahoe Sportfishing has picked up a pair of bonus brown trout ranging up to 4 pounds.
“There are a lot of mackinaw holding in 200 to 300 feet of water off Calneva and there is another good concentration of macks holding off Cave Rock. We’ve been hooking our mackinaw while trolling a variety of small spoons including Sep’s Pro Secrets,” disclosed Captain Rick Kennedy of Tight Lines Guide Service.
“I’ve picked up some kokanee to 14 inches and I know of fish caught by reliable sources that have measured 18 inches, but overall the action has been spotty. I haven’t been able to find a good concentration of kokanee yet, but the salmon fishing is really just getting underway,” said Kennedy.
Mickey Daniels of Mickey’s Big Mack Charters has been hammering macks up at the north end of Tahoe. Daniels’s clients have been keeping a few fish in the 3 to 7 pound class for the table. The rest of the fish are tagged and released.
Daniels starts off the day trolling shallow water quickly and then slows down and probes deeper as the sun climbs in the sky.
