Mackinaw fishing is really heating up at Lake Tahoe and local experts expect it to get even better over the next 6 to 8 weeks. Anglers have had to deal with storms and wind recently, but thats all part of fishing high Sierra lakes in the late fall.
Due to weather last week reports were limited, but Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters reported, "before the storms we were doing really well trolling deep water. When the weather clears up and calms down I expect that the fishing will be very productive. Historically some of the best fishing of the year takes place in November and December."
Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters just returned from a solo backpacking trip for golden trout, but is back on the water and catching macks. Denis has been putting his clients on limits of mackinaw in the 2 to 4 pound range most days while working the minnows teamed with dodgers. There have been some larger fish on the move too.
According to the staff at Tahoe Sportfishing, limits have been the rule for mackinaw anglers as of recently. They are fishing off the Sky Run Shelf and Edgewood Shelf.Back To Reports
