Mixed Reports On Salmon Success
The salmon fishing has been hit and miss, with “good fishing one day and horrible action the next,” said Tim Boggs at Elkhorn Bait and Tackle.
“Mel Gillette and I caught one salmon weighing 17.4 pounds while anchor fishing with a Silvertron spinner at Verona on Wednesday, September 25,” he said. “We didn’t see another fish caught there, so we trolled all of the way to the Elkhorn Bridge and didn’t pick any other fish. We saw more fish at Verona than anywhere else.”
The water temperature was 65 to 67 degrees. “We had three other take downs, but the fish didn’t get hooked,” said Boggs.
Craig at Fisherman’s Warehouse in Sacramento reported very good salmon fishing during his latest trip on the Sacramento in the downtown area. “My fishing buddy and I landed our limits of salmon while jigging with 2 oz. Blade Runner Duh Spoons for just two hours,” he noted. “All of the fish were cookie cutter-size, in the 18 to 19 pound range.”
Monte Smith of Gold Country Sportfishing reported that his client, Mike Abourezk of Farmington, landed two salmon weighing 18 and 23 pounds while trolling Kwikfish in the Garcia Bend Area on his latest fishing adventure. Smith also caught one fish in the 18 to 20 lb. range himself.
Three guys on the previous trip landed two fish and lost two others while trolling. The fish ranged from 15 to 18 pounds. “The key is to fish two hours before and two hours the high tide,” he noted.
“Bank anglers are hooking good numbers of salmon while fishing Mepps Flying C spinners at the Minnow Hole and Garcia Bend,” reported Jimmy Perez at Broadway Bait Rod & Gun. “Anglers weighed in 12 kings on Friday.”Back To Reports
