Location: Collins Lake,
(Oregon House) With the warm water temperatures, anglers fishing over the weekend of September 29-30 continued to find the best action on catfish while fishing worms, mackerel, sardines and other baits.
The lake level was 29′ from full and the surface water temperature was 76 degrees at Collins on October 1. When the surface water temperature cools down with cooler weather, the lake will turnover, improving the rainbow trout action.
September was a great month for catfish, with big fish honors going to David Callison for his 11 lb. channel cat. His fishing partner also landed an 8 lb. channel catfish on that trip. Both anglers used worms for bait during the day under the power lines.
Crappie fishing was also good in September. Ibrahim and Yaqeen caught 6 crappie on live minnows in Elmer’s Cove. Ricardo from Oroville fished near the bridge using worms to hook two crappie along with a 4-1/2 lb. catfish. Finallly, Michael Orozco caught two crappie by the dam on worms from shore.
