Protected Sloughs Offer Refuge For Catfish And Bass

Species: Bass Stripers
Location: Sacramento River- Delta, Sacramento River- Middle, San Joaquin Delta,

Unpredictable winds kept most anglers off the water, while others took off for protected sloughs in search of panfish, bass and catfish.

Anglers working the shoreline within the city limits scored on schoolie striped bass according to Jason Sheppard of Rio Vista Bait and Tackle.

"Guys are out on the bank soaking sardines and anchoviea just off the rocks and down by Sandy Beach are doing pretty good," he tipped. "They're catching a couple fish on the San Joaquin side but it slowed down a bit partly due to all the wind.

Other anglers searched out more favorable conditions. "If you're looking for something else, bass and catfish are coming out of the sloughs down by Brannan Island. The cafish are being caught off the shore in Rio Vista, too," he added.
