“We’ve got plenty of browns along with some much needed rain and snow at Lake Almanor,” said Bryan Roccucci of Big Daddy’s Guide Service.
“The beautiful spring weather we had been enjoying was pushed out by a cold front that moved through the area last weekend. The front dropped rain and a little snow at the lake. There was about 2 inches of snow at the Canyon Dam ramp on Sunday morning. Along with the snow, we had some brisk breeze coming out of the southwest several days last week. A little wind isn’t going to keep us from the browns though,” laughed Roccucci.
“Recently our catch has been 95% browns with a few kings as well as a few big ‘bows in the mix. With browns running 3 to 7.5 pounds, kings that are 20 inches and over 3 pounds as well as rainbows going 3 to 5 pounds we are in the middle of some exciting spring action,” Roccucci said.
Bryan’s go to trolling bait has been a silver and black floating Rapala minnow long line just below the surface of the water.
“With the storm front the water temperature at the lake dropped a couple degrees. This is actually good for the fishing as it will keep the browns on the feed. When the drop occurred it failed to slow the fishing much and we were still seeing hatches of bugs all along the eastern shoreline. I’m not the only one hooking up. I’ve seen other anglers both in boats and on the bank hooking browns,” added Roccucci.
