Rainbows And ‘Kokes Rally To Lures
If you want to experience red hot trolling, Lake Shasta and Whiskeytown Reservoir are two spots that you should visit soon. At Shasta it’s rainbows that are creating the smiles, while at Whiskeytown kokanee are on the warpath.
“You can’t go wrong fishing either Shasta or Whiskeytown,” related Mike Elster of Mike’s Fishing Guide Service. “The rainbow bite at Shasta is fantastic. On my last trip we worked Waters Gulch for three limits of 14 to 17 inch fish during a half day, late morning adventure.”
“The rainbows are found from 60 to 80 feet deep and the hot lures have been either watermelon or chrome Apex Lures or white or blue Wiggle Hoochies teamed with Sling Blade dodgers,” tipped Elster.
As of press time Shasta was 77 feet from maximum pool and dropping.
“At Whiskeytown the kokanee fishing is red hot. I’ve been getting easy limits of fat 12 to 14 inch fish while working near the bridge. I met a Fish Sniffer reader at the lake this week that reported lots of salmon and very good action near the dam. The fish will be holding from 40 to 60 feet deep and they will hit a variety of corn tipped lures,” advised Elster.Back To Reports
