Rainbows Dominate Catches At Union Valley
Anglers hitting Crystal Basin lakes will find action across the lakes as cooling water and dropping levels impact opportunities. Guide Randy Williams at Randy Williams Fishing Service offered reports on action at several lakes.
“Union Valley Lake water levels have been falling steadily, pushing smallmouth bass into deeper water around lake; look to find smallmouth bass in 15-25 feet of water during the day, with smaller fish up in the shallows. Recent trout plants have bolstered planter fishing, with some limits being taken by trollers at 35 feet deep. The boat launch dock has been pulled out of water.”
“Jenkinson Lake water levels are down, but bass as are being caught around the lake - look for rocky areas with steep drop-offs. Plastics tossed 5-25 feet deep will get into the bass. DFG planting rainbows have kicked off the trout bite with most congregating at the second launch area.”
“Loon Lake is producing small stocked trout around launch ramp area. Some browns reported on broken back Rapalas at 35 feet deep. Icehouse trollers should work water to the left of the launch ramp or across dam side to get results.”
