Rainbows Hit The Ice

(Chilcoot) Ice fishing enthusiasts continue to have fun pulling rainbows through the ice near the dam at Frenchman Lake.
“On local reported good trout fishing on Valentines Day,,” stated Shirley Wiggin at Wiggin’s Trading Post. “Anglers are hooking rainbows in the 14 to 18 inch range while using nightcrawlers and cheese baits.”
The ice is thick at the dam, ranging from 12 to 15 inches thick. The dam is the only place accessible by car or truck, since the road is plowed up to the dam. You have to use a snowmobile to access the rest of the lake.
Ice fishermen continue to bag rainbows at Lake Davis. Wiggin reported that trout to 2 pounds have been caught at Davis on nightcrawlers, PowerBait and Power Eggs in recent weeks.
Always exercise caution when ice fishing and make sure you dress with plenty of warm clothing.
