Rainbows To 5 Pounds Battle Trollers
October is a great time to visit Lake Almanor. The nippy chill of fall is in the air and the trout bite ranges from good to great as the fish put on the feedbag to prepare for the bleak winter months ahead.
“Almanor is in transition right now. We are catching lots of fish, but I expect we’ll be doing even better as fall progresses,” related Bryan Roccucci of Big Daddy’s Guide Service.
“Right now we are working both the East and West shores with Speedy Shiners and Needlefish. I’m trolling quickly at about 2.5 miles per hour. We are currently fishing from 20 to 30 feet deep and picking up both kings and rainbows. The rainbows are our targets. These fish run 2.5 to 3.5 pounds, but the biggest ones go a full 5 pounds. They are chasing bait so they really hit hard,” exclaimed Roccucci.
With the water temperature at 56 degrees and dropping, we are seeing large fish moving shallow. Fish are now being caught in 6 to 8 feet of water. More and more fish will stack up shallow as the water temperature drops,” Roccucci predicted.Back To Reports
