Sacramento River Salmon Fishing Success
I've been going out just about once a week since the season started, working the wing dams north of the Elkhorn boat launch, and yesterday I experienced the fruits of my labor! Pulled in a 20 lb chinook male on a flatfish with mike's lunker lotion (salmon scent) and fought that bad boy for 20 min or so. 'Twas a pretty generic flatfish too, the green and silver that seems to be the only kwifish pattern left at my local walmart. All in all i am stoked!!
Here's some stats for y'all, i was fishing in about 10' water on the side seam of a deep pool with no extra weight on my rig (the flatfish was it, K14 fyi). Water temp was 69 degrees about 1' down in the column, and it sure seemed like more water than normal was being pushed through the river. River bank levels were 1-2' higher than the last time I was out and the flows seemed to be up as well. Caught the fish at about 5:30, had two more small hits after bringing the big boy in but nothing stuck.
