There has been a fair amount of action for saltwater anglers in the Berkeley area despite the fact that this is traditionally the slowest time of the year.

“We’ve got a couple charter boats running out of the marina right now,” related Ray Niford at the Berkeley Marina Sportfishing Center. “The Eldorado 3 has been running to the islands on sanddab and crab combination trips with a decent level of success.”

“The Happy Hooker headed up north yesterday looking for sturgeon. They didn’t boat any sturgeon, but they did pick up a very nice halibut and several quality stripers while soaking bait,” related Niford.

According to Niford, anglers working off the Berkeley pier have been enjoying pretty good action on sharks and fair action while targeting perch.

Niford is now running the newly renovated Berkeley Marina Sportfishing Center. The store boats a full line of bait and fishing gear from manufacturers like Phenix, Avet, Shimano, Daiwa, Okuma, P-Line, Shakespeare and Trokar.

Niford also takes reservations for several charter boats when they are running such as the California Dawn, Eldorado, Eldorado 3, Golden Eye 2000, Sun Fish, Happy Hooker and New Easy Rider.
