(Clearlake) Catfish and bass are providing the top action at Clear Lake as the water cools and the algae continues to dissipate.
“Drop shot with Robo Worms or drift live minnows for bass,” advised Ken Taddie at the Indian Beach Resort. “Use frozen cut baits or large minnows for the channel catfish. Also, some bluegill are being taken on red worms and meal worms off the local docks.”
“The bass are starting to bite,” disclosed Allen Ashmore at Limit Out Bait and Tackle in Clearlake. “R.C. took fifth place by catching a five pounder in yesterday’s local turkey shoot and the first place fish went 8 pounds.”
Anglers are using a mixture of lipless crankbaits, drop shot rigs and top water lures. One of the most productive baits now is the River2Sea Whopper Stopper, he noted.
“Catfish action is very good throughout the lake,” added Ashmore. Anglers are using nightcrawlers. mackerel and other cut baits at Henderson Point, Cache Creek and Rattlesnake Island for cats to 17 pounds.
